The oldest Archeologic discoveries were made between 1957 and 1966 at the “Mas de Benita”.The discoveries belong to a grave from the last epoch of the early stone age. Later, in 1996, a paleoiberian funeral site was found at the “Masia de Musols”. Nowadays you can visit the discoveries in the museum Montsia in Amposta. The origin of the name Aldea is in the time of the reign of the visigoths and the of the arabians befor. In the year 1148 the earl Ramon Brenguer became owner of the village which he had allready donated in 1146 to the Prior Bernat Bell-lloc. To ask for rain, in the 18th century did start the pilgrimages to the chapel of the saint virgin. Till today the pilgrimages are very popular and regular. Additional to the chapel, which is the symbol of the village, in the south part of Aldea you will find the tower “Torre de la Candela”. Also there are the ruins of the tower “Torre de Vinaixarop” from where you got a wonderful view ofer the Delta.
